Our trip on 17th July was to the home of the Welsh Poet, Hedd Wyn, at Yr Ysgwrn, Trawsfynydd. This place is really special and we were very moved to see the “Cadair Ddu”, the Birkenhead National Eisteddfod Chair that Hedd Wyn won posthumously in 1917 only a few weeks after his death at Passchendaele. We were also moved by the photographs of the other young men from Trawsfynydd who died during the First World War. We have done a similar project around the young men of Edeyrnion who are remembered on our War Memorials, some of whom would have known and maybe have served with Hedd Wyn in the Royal Welch Fusiliers.

A group of our volunteers visited the Ironworks at Bersham, Wrexham, followed by a tour of the North East Wales 100 Objects Exhibition at Wrexham Museum and the Wrexham Archives. The day was a great success and we came back with a better understanding of the process of iron manufacture and the natural elements found in that locality that made Bersham so successful. The Archivist at Wrexham Museum gave us a lot of useful information about how we should be protecting the records and photographs in our collection and we will be putting this into practice. Everyone enjoyed the 100 Objects Exhibition which included a Corwen Eisteddfod Chair and Llangollen Railway headboard from our collection.

Corwen Museum Volunteers had a great trip on Thursday 10th May 2018 to the Royal Welch Fusilier Museum at Caernarfon Castle. Our volunteers have been researching the men who are commemorated on the First World War Memorials in Edeyrnion and many of these were Royal Welch Fusiliers. We gained a lot of extra knowledge about the regiment from our guide, Keith Jones, who made the visit very enjoyable.
We are sharing information with the RWF Museum about the research we have done and the Museum has been able to help us where we have had gaps. All this work will not be wasted because the folders will be archived at the Royal Welch Fusilier Archives in Wrexham Museum, for the public to access in the future.

]]>The project will enable local people and visitors to the area alike, to understand how and why the area evolved over time. It is hoped that the local schools will become involved, giving the children a better understanding of the place where they live. A Community Memory Board will show photographs of Corwen Life and People since the Second World War, with space for individuals to record their thoughts and memories. We will also start building a Resource Centre so that photographs and documents from the past and present can be stored for use both now and in the future. We want the community to become involved in volunteering at the Museum, in research, display building and in stewarding. We also want the loan or donation of old photographs, documents and artefacts relating to Edeyrnion, to display. If you think you can help in any way please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
The Museum is closed at present whilst the work is completed, but will re-open on Saturday 18th February. We are holding a Community Open Day on Saturday 25th February from 10.30 am to 7.00 pm and hope that you will be able to join us.
