Capel Coch – Amgueddfa Corwen Museum http://www.corwenmuseum.org.uk Corwen Museum | Amgueddfa Corwen Wed, 04 Dec 2019 19:59:03 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.4 Lest we forget our young men of Edeyrnion who fell in the Great War /lest-we-forget-our-young-men-of-edeyrnion-who-fell-in-the-great-war/ Tue, 07 Nov 2017 12:48:42 +0000 /?p=412 We hope you will come to see the Books of Remembrance in the Museum and  pay your respects to the 144 young men and 1 woman who are named on our War Memorials in Edeyrnion.  We are also hoping that some of you will have more information about these people – are they related to you?  Do you have stories, letters, photographs or artefacts to do with their time as soldiers?  We would love to hear from you.

We have won Heritage Lottery Support! /we-have-won-heritage-lottery-support/ Fri, 13 Jan 2017 14:16:45 +0000 http://www.canedeyrnion.org.uk/?p=329 We have today received £7900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), part of which will fund two exciting new exhibitions in the Corwen Museum, on the legend of Owain Glyndwr and Corwen – the Crossroads of North Wales.  These displays will tell the story of Corwen and the Edeyrnion area from prehistoric times to the present day, through the eyes and ears of travellers and local people.  The work will be done by volunteers from the local community .and we want to involve as many people as possible in this unique project.

The project will enable local people and visitors to the area alike, to understand how and why the area evolved over time.  It is hoped that the local schools will become involved, giving the children a better understanding of the place where they live.  A Community Memory Board will show photographs of Corwen Life and People since the Second World War, with space for individuals to record their thoughts and memories.  We will also start building a Resource Centre so that photographs and documents from the past and present can be stored for use both now and in the future.   We want the community to become involved in volunteering at the Museum, in research, display building and in stewarding.  We also want the loan or donation of old photographs, documents and artefacts relating to Edeyrnion, to display.  If you think you can help in any way please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.

The Museum is closed at present whilst the work is completed, but will re-open on Saturday 18th February.  We are holding a Community Open Day on Saturday 25th February from 10.30 am to 7.00 pm and hope that you will be able to join us.

work as stewards.

Exhibition news /exhibition-news/ Sun, 11 May 2014 11:29:04 +0000 http://www.canedeyrnion.org.uk/?p=156 There have been some very exciting developments regarding the Railway Exhibition. Can Edeyrnion are working with Llangollen Railway Trust and Corwen Railway Society to make the Exhibition a permanent museum, based at Capel Coch in Corwen. This has the full backing of the Heritage Lottery Funders and will open to coincide with the first passenger train to arrive in Corwen – hopefully in July this year. A series of temporary exhibitions will run alongside the permanent exhibits covering all aspects of the heritage and culture of the Edeyrnion area. We are looking for volunteers to help in all aspects of running the exhibitions and invite local groups and organisations to come forward with ideas and support for the temporary displays. We want this to be a museum involving the whole community.
